Museum Neka

Museum Neka

Art Museums and Galleries

Ubud is home to a number of well-know art / painting museums:

  • Museum Puri Lukisan
  • Neka Museum
  • Arma Museum
  • Museum Rudana
  • Setia Darma, House of Masks and Puppets

The Prince of the Royal family of Ubud and a Dutch expatriate artist, resident in Ubud, Rudolf Bonnet collaborated to bring Balinese artists together into a common association, helping to spread Western arttechniques among the different art schools, likewise other artists such as Walter Spies. Also admire Lempad, Affandi, Sadali, Hofker, Bonnet, Le Mayeur and many more – all are “household-names” here in Bali. Never let it be said that the flow of influence works in only one direction!

Besides paintings it's fun to visit the ARMA, when local children practice Balinese dancing during Gamelan practice. There are also regular Legong and Kecak performances. There are a myriad of cultural courses offered here too.

Ceremony

Temple Ceremony

Most of the population in Bali is Hindu (approx 80%). The Balinese culture is unique, with events such as temple ceremonies and cremations, some of which you may see during your stay. Each Balinese family has their own family temple, which they worship each day.
We will inform you if and when such a ceremony takes place close by Villa Semana.

Performance

Traditional Balinese Performance

Ubud is known as the center of Bali's arts and crafts. Each night somewhere in the area there are dance and/or Wayang Kulit (shadow puppet play) performances.

Monkey Forest

The Ubud Monkey Forest

Green Ubud Monkey Forest is the most popular stop for tourists in the town of Ubud itself.  Hundreds of playful and interactive Macaque monkeys call the sacred forest home and roam freely around the tree canopy and temple complex.

Walking around the winding, moss-covered brick paths of the Monkey Forest, is a great way to escape the heat of the afternoon, but mind your belongings.  The steady stream of tourists has made the monkeys bold enough to even reach into pockets in search of something interesting!

White water rafting around Ubud

Rafting

The Ayung Riveris Bali's most spectacular, and provides 27 sets of challenging and fun filled rapids set to a backdrop of wild unspoiled rainforest, towering gorges and magnificent rice paddy terraces White Water Rafting tours in Bali are NOT all the same.
